'this isn't right.' and erased everything i wrote on the paper. whatever reflected in the mirror... i don't know myself. i grew more to be suspicious 'cause i didn't wanna grow up. i was afraid of who i wanted to become and who i would be. was i born for myself or for success?

TIMELINE

1991
+ February 14: women are welcome into the military for south korea. ryu jieun sets out to enlist, going against the wishes of her family.
+ September 13: and our character's father, im taeshik, also begins his journey by parting from his family. while in pharmaceutical sales, he isn't as happy with his place as he could be. he realizes he wants to become a scientist instead after he finishes school.
1993
+ May 26: in order to launch into a new career, taeshik enlists in the army to complete his service before he has to return to school. where he meets a soldier who's superior to him by experience and ends up infatuated with.
1996
+ September 27: after taeshik completes his service, he continues to meet with jieun. she, however, would have remained in the army until she finds out she's pregnant and has to take leave.
1997
+ January 1: while remaining together, for the pregnancy to take its course, they discuss their own relationship often. even with the diverse dreams they have, the two settle for the sake of a family.
+ June 12: jiseok is born to the two bright and young parents, fresh into a relationship and now a child.
+ Skip forward: in less than a year, the couple separates. taeshik leaves the country, but with joint custody he lives as jiseok for 6 months in korea, and as dorian for 6 months in washington.
2001
+ June 17: jiseok's first developed memory happens to be when he is four and attends his father's graduation from school. afterwards, he gets lost somewhere in the rural with a coca-cola slushie in hand.
2006

+ February 14: the day his birth mom is declared passed, jiseok is no more than nine years old when the news comes during classes.
+ March 9: the first time he meets his entire family is a week in march to pay respects. but overcome with shyness and unable to speak korean clearly, jiseok somehow feels more obscured to them.
2007-2011
+ February 5: dorian continues his life in washington with his father. a kid who can't sit completely still. he takes piano and dancing lessons to take up his time, especially in the summers.
+ November 23: leonard and jiseok welcome an addition to their team for the first time. a short-haired red dachshund with the name 'jonesy' picked out for him.
+ Skip forward: for a couple of years, he was in summer camps. following that he could recall joining theater tech where he could help build sets. and the spot he loved most, the sound booth.
+ Skip forward: for academics, dorian has an affinity for math and science. a good studier and full of passion from a young age, he decides to follow the footsteps of his father and become a scientist.
2012
+ July 7: because of his research, taeshik work calls for them moving seoul. even after the life dorian established, he moved with his dad, thinking it would still be easy to continue studying in korea. he ended up mistaken.
+ October 31: a poor accent and damaged teenage skin left him sticking among his peers. not only that, he wore piercings along his ears and the way he cut and dyed his hair made him come off as somewhat a punk. it wasn't long until rumors accumulated around him in school.
+ August 21: he would wing his work and start skipping classes. usually met with older friends for coffee or just take aimless walks. the stress got to be too much for him.
+ February 25: after failing to be accepted into a science academy on interview, dorian dropped school completely. his passion for chemistry died somewhen before that happened anyway.
2014
+ May 5: originally wanting to travel to find a new passion, he's unable to turn up with any money to do so. his father advises him to remain at home and find a new passion. his adventure starts when he rediscovers his love of music.
+ December 6: experimenting in making his own music, he starts anonymously online with the alias 'mercury', his style to partial khh and lo-fi vibes.
2015
+ June 12: 'mercury' is dropped in place of 'i.m' and he starts gaining more confidence for rap and music-making. this is the same year he's recruited into goblin crew [established 2012].
+ August 8: being active in a crew is i.m's drive and support as he establishes himself as an underground rapper.
+ May 17: serena cho joins the 'im clan' when she begins dating taeshik. she is an animator from queens, new york. and the closest thing dorian gets to a mother, who he loves with his whole heart.
+ March 1: he moves out on his own for the first time. he works several jobs, living with a crewmate, and renting his own studio and equipment from his pocket.
+ June 5: dorian auditions for a company, considering the idol life. but doesn't pull through with his contract, in the end, knowing he wants to remain in khh and work independently.
December 23: makes up for his missed education by completing credits and getting a diploma through online on 'mega study'.
2016
+ January 26: dorian adopts his own cat he's grown attached to from his part-time job and calls her 'kiki' as if he's her familiar from his favorite childhood nickname, 'jiji'. and not the other way around.
+ April 9: kiki gets lose when dorian brought her to the studio with him for the first time. when he sees her across the street, he runs to rescue her, blind-sighted by a car that hits him. it's his roommate who manages to track down the cat and bring her back home while dorian's in the hospital, recovering painful surgeries.
+ September 4: dorian's roommate works extra hours suddenly as he deals with physical therapy and chest pains. but in the end he surprises him with two plane tickets to california as a vacation. their two weeks there are some of the most memorable in his life.
2017
+ March 19: dorian's roommate officially moves to california to join a new hip hop crew, finally and officially leaving him completely alone. childhood dog, jonesy, passes away after a battle with cancer. but serena gets a dog herself, a large white chow named apollo.
2018
+ January 21: approached by one of the rappers he respects the most, he is personally invited to join a new freelance label known as 'selfmade' owned by bang. he graciously signs.
2019
+ February 5: he makes the resolution to find work out activities he likes so he can build his body some, start on being more fit and paying attention to his health for the first time.
+ March 29: selfmade officially closes down, leaving i.m back to work independently. however, he still isn't ready to give up. dorian sees only opportunities from here.
+ July 19: while on hiatus from work, dorian takes a trip to the states with his best friend where they stay for several months. while there, along the way, they get married for the pure appeal of being married to a bro.
+ October 20: returned to the states, they file and finalize their divorce to continue on as best friends.
2020
+ January 26: with the release of his first album, he'll continue focusing on himself and his career ready to take on a new decade of growing as a person and artist.
+ September 27: the next label to approach him that he signs for is 199x, quitting his part-time jobs to use resources from the company.
+ October 15: i.m makes an appearance on the survival show 'show me the money', eliminated at the last episode as a semi-finalist.
2021 and forward
+ January 1: happier than he can ever ask for, jiseok sends off into the new year with the woman of his dreams, but still left with plenty of room to grow he lets the current carry him however he feels.

◈ because 'eun' from jieun means silver, dorian's parents took to calling him such before his birth. growing up he still was sometimes called 'silver baby' as one of his nicknames, which he later adapted into 'mercury'.
◈ the ji prefix of his korean name is also directly after his mother but ultimately he was named by taeshik.
◈ dorian has had an accumulation of nicknames growing up, and still, there's hardly any he doesn't accept openly. his favorites always being 'jiji' and 'dodo'.
◈ when they moved back to korea, he was constantly told about what ways he resembled his mother. having never met her in person, he couldn't believe them or accept it. always thought the adults were projecting their regrets of her death.
◈ because of how she chose to end her life, neither dorian or his dad approve of gun usage. at times, his lyrics use gun imagery, which is meant to be ironic.
◈ this hasn't changed his mind about the army and he still desires to complete his service in the future, in honor of himself and his parents who both served.
◈ occasionally, he'll 'speak' to his mom. share his thoughts when he's alone or asks random questions that come to mind, wondering what she would do or say. he finds it methodical when trying to work through the gap he has with her.
◈ the biggest influence and role model in his life is considered to be his dad. dorian always admired his open mind and carefree nature, setting him apart with other parents dorian has known. which he is grateful for. his dad is his hero.
◈ the adult figures in his life are incredible to him. leo is even published in the world of disease control and he dedicates each work to his family individually, starting with his son. while serena achieved her dream of working for one of the most renowned animation studios in korea. sunmin often works on western cartoons and movies with disney and cartoon network to name examples.
◈ back when dorian wanted to be a scientist, he loved chemistry more than any subject. because of mathematical and experimental elements. then because of his affinity to rhythm when he was young, he was drawn to math.
◈ the kind of person to lie without considering the consequences. he is never quite honest with anybody but isn't intentionally malicious. white lies and half-truths are his wall when he doesn't want to tell the truth about himself.
◈ he's never manipulative, just defensive when it comes to his health, personality, or history. he prefers solitude. sometimes, he says something as a test of a person's gullibility.
◈ that included, dorian insists his actual height is clearly 175cm. he will always argue that he clearly isn't shorter than that, which he is.
◈ isn't a picky eater by any stretch. he'll eat about anything, only not a fan of having beans in his rice because of the texture. his personal favorite foods are flavorful or exotic. like curry, pasta, sushi, chicken and so on.
◈ his favorite drink above anything is water. but dorian also loves sour juices with pulp/jelly in them. being a caffeine addict, he also drinks coffee daily.
◈ in an attempt to take care of his health, he gave up coffee in mid-2020, cutting it cold but doing his best to lay off any caffeine if he can help it.
◈ not eating often as a healthy person should is one of dorian's big problems, but as of lately, he has been more into his supplements to make up for missing meals. maintaining muscle is hard work for him, but he puts forth the effort.
◈ always has been a bit of a sweet tooth. anything with a lot of sugar is his guilty pleasure. especially sours, pop, and ice cream. as a kid, he'd blow allowances on airheads and other gummy candy.
◈ he has very few experiences being high while visiting the states, but mostly his vice of choice is alcohol and codeine of which he's a big fan. he drinks often but no to excess unless he's drinking socially, he may binge drink like this.
◈ has grown to be insecure of his skin since his change to korea. developed intense skincare and makeup routines to hide his acne scars, just developing a love of cosmetics over time.
◈ his early days in korea he went through a supposed "punk phase" where he listened to hollywood undead and bleached his hair so bad he had to shave it off making him fussy with his hair and dying it too often.
◈ wore rows of piercings on his ears and had an eyebrow piercing years ago. all of which got infected so he removed except for a few ear piercings.
◈ years went by, he decided to finally add to his piercings (piercing again over his eyebrow), but after his eyebrow rejected by the end of 2019 he removed it again while keeping the rest in place.
◈ never thought he'd be the type to get tattoos, but he decided to try with small pieces. after being pleasantly surprised with the results he jumped straight to larger pieces.
◈ has questionable fashion choices, but is a fan of it. mostly he's questioned about how he wears work out clothes with silver jewelry or the strange improper ways he wears his bags.
◈ the more he gets into beauty, the more he gets into fashion brands and styles. because of his expensive taste, he's become a part of the "sugar baby club".
◈ he gets his sugar from rich, usually foreign, fans who send money and gifts in exchange for pictures and voice clips. he especially loves to be spoiled.
◈ he is slightly materialistic and even though he's stingy with his own money, he thought it had more value to him than love for most his life. his outlook may have changed, but he still finds it important to be paid.
◈ dorian's tongue is slightly too big for his mouth. it appears in his speech. even with years of practice, he barely passes as a native speaker or shows speech impediments. another feature he's rather ashamed of in himself.
◈ what is fun, dorian can effortlessly touch his tongue to his nose and elbow. he can also eat fruit by the foot in 16 seconds.
◈ dorian is naturally flexible. he can kick his leg over his head with ease and is caught sitting and stretching in bizarre positions. he's good at doing splits.
◈ growing up in america, dorian grew up on cartoon network. a channel he still loves the most. his pleasure for animated shows and movies never fails to waver. his dad, too, would take him to ghibli movie showings and events.
◈ big into collecting stuffed animals and using them to decorate his apartment and studio. also personalizes them by showing love in his form, tends to draw on them and smack them around.
◈ often sleeps with stuffed animals, and if not that, he has to hug a pillow to his chest. it keeps him anchored in place as he sleeps.
◈ a light sleeper. he needs complete silence and darkness to sleep and wakes up at the slightest disruptions. suffers bouts of insomnia when working too hard and because of his fickle sleep habits.
◈ likes to take long hot showers at night. he finishes every bath and shower usually with a bottle of water or, sometimes, chugging a juice.
◈ finds candles to be relaxing. the scent or the light helps him unwind. he lights them around home or in his studio.
◈ loves video games, especially overwatch. reaper and hanzo are dorian's mains. in smash bros he mains ness, lucas, and game&watch.
◈ dorian is obsessed with the color purple, even being the ever-malleable silver that he is, purple is a warm and cold color that most suits his personality.
◈ doesn't really have any known phobias. he can handle heights, the dark, and loud noises well. sometimes he becomes anxious when he's simply insecure in front of or around people, but other kinds of things don't phase him.
◈ his favorite marvel hero is deadpool because he's an anti-hero with a big sense of humor, dorian finds slightly more relatable.
◈ to this day, his favorite story/book is the little prince by antoine de saint-exupéry. because of all the symbolism in it.
◈ he is big into personalizing his books. if he owns them, unless it's some special edition, he usually dog ears them or fills them with notes and highlighted passages. he mostly reads books in english to pass his time.
